CROMANE

Als ich in der Pariser Haute Couture gearbeitet habe, habe ich gelernt, dass man dort sein Handwerk auf die Spitze treibt, sich also genau da Arbeit macht, wo sich ein anderer nicht bemühen würde. So hatte ich damals zum Beispiel Federn auf Federkiele gebunden, damit diese nicht unnatürlich, sondern übernatürlich wirkten. Und mit genau diesem Ansatz habe ich diese Skulptur auf Muscheln der Cromane Bucht in Irland gefertigt. Der Größe nach sortiert und ineinandergesteckt ergeben diese Schalen kleine Formen. Und diese Formen habe ich zu einem neuen Ganzen zusammengesetzt. Eine neue ästhetische Form ist daraus entstanden. Das Material wirkt vertraut und sieht natürlich aus, aber die Form ist neu und man findet es schön.

When I worked in Parisian Haute Couture, I learned that you take your craft to the extreme there, like you do work exactly where someone else wouldn't make an effort. For example, I had tied feathers to quills so that they did not look unnatural, but supernatural. And with exactly this approach I made this sculpture made of shells of Cromane Bay in Ireland. Sorted by size and inserted into each other, these shells form small shapes. And I assembled these shapes together to create a form. A new aesthetic form has emerged from this. The material looks familiar and natural, but the shape is new and you find it beautiful.
