Fédiofègue Koné, *1913 +1987
Fédiofègue "Fedi" Koné's first masks casted between 1930 and 1940 give a shapeless and bulky impression. These masks were hold in the hands while dancing, they were not fixed on a cloth or attached to the head. Later on his masks had more elements of a traditional Kpelié masks. In an interview with Karl-Heinz Krieg he said, that he was influenced by the masks of Zana Quattara, a Fono from Landiougou.
Fedi was a tall man with artist's temper. Masks he casted in the 1960ies to 1970ies are still uneven and have wholes. He did not cast upside down, he placed the casting channels on the front of the face. As expected, he always had problems in casting. Independently of the bad casting quality, his masks had high spiritual power in ritus. Rare are his two smaller masks he made for children to dance.
